From December 5-7, 2005 a conference entitled: Asbestos Monitoring and Analytical Methods will be held in Venice, Italy. This event, organized by the Istituto Superiore per la Prevenzione e Sicurezza sul Lavoro (Rome), Barricalla S.p.A (Turin) and Deconta GmbH (Isselburg, Germany), is taking place within the framework of the EU-LIFE Project.1
Sessions on asbestos sampling techniques, asbestos analysis in air, soils and liquids will be offered in an attempt to comprehend and deal with asbestos contamination in the European environment. A proposal to implement a new filtration treatment of asbestos fibers in leachate from hazardous landfills will be discussed. The new methodology requires on-site microwave and ultra filtration pre-treatment: “The ultra filtration of the liquid treated with a microwave process effectively blocks fibres and other toxic materials and delivers a liquid depurated from these toxic agents and free of organic matter.”
