SV40
A paper published in Cancer Causes and Control 13: 121-129, 2002, casts considerable doubt on the association of SV40 with mesothelioma. In their paper: Reappraisal of the strong association between simian virus 40 and human malignant mesothelioma of the pleura (Belgium), researchers R Hubner and E V March, from the University of Antwerp, conclude: Our "results provide strong evidence for a lack of association of SV40 with most pleural mesotheliomas in the Belgian population. We recommend a re-examination of other positive case series and avoidance of questionable hybridization practices in future studies."
