Risk of Asbestos-related Lung Cancer Underestimated

The paper entitled: Low-Dose Exposure to Asbestos and Lung Cancer: Dose-Response Relations and Interaction with Smoking in a Population-based Case-Referent Study in Stockholm was published in 2002 in volume 155, No. 11 of the American Journal of Epidemiology. Co-authors P Gustavsson, F Nyberg et al found that: "Lung cancer risk increased almost linearly with cumulative doses of asbestos … (there was) a clear excess risk of lung cancer at low-dose levels and that linear extrapolation from high exposure levels underestimates the risk at low doses."
