Alan Reinstein

Our esteemed friend Alan Reinstein, President of the (U.S.) Asbestos Diseases and Awareness Organization (ADAO), died from mesothelioma on May 22, 2006. Alan and his wife Linda were founder members of the ADAO, an organization dedicated to exposing the hidden epidemic of asbestos disease which is killing thousands of Americans every year.

Alan fought a long and courageous battle against this cruel disease; his determination to remain with his family gave him the strength to deal with the debilitating symptoms and the brutal pain. Through sheer force of will, he was able to travel to New York in April 2006 for the ADAO's 2nd annual asbestos conference. Alan made the most of his days in New York and delighted in showing Linda and Emily some of his favorite places in his old home town. The joy of this family's unity and the pleasure they took in each other's company was a true delight that was obvious to all of us who were privileged to share these days with them.

Alan leaves behind his devoted wife Linda and his children: Jeffrey, Elizabeth and Emily. His grandchildren Isabel and Ezme have lost years of love from a doting grandfather; we have all lost the energy and humor with which Alan imbued everything he did. The memory of Alan Reinstein will be treasured not only by his family and friends but by virtual friends all over the world who have grown to respect and admire his leadership and determination.

Other tributes can be found in an Official ADAO Statement and a Press release by Ban Asbestos Canada
