Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia 2013 Walk

The 2012 walk by the Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia (ADSA) raised $75,000 for medical research into asbestos-related diseases. This year's walk, which will take place from May 12 to 17, aims to raise even more. The ADSA team will walk from Dunsborough to Perth and will finish up at noon on Friday May 17 at Solidarity Park opposite Parliament House. Donations can be made online, by cheque or by credit card:

Conference: Asbestos-related Disease Claims

A legal conference is being held in Doncaster on June 14, 2013 entitled: Asbestos-related Disease Claims. The event, which is being organized by the South Yorkshire Asbestos Victim Support Group (SARAG), will be chaired by Laurie Kazan-Allen, Editor of the British Asbestos Newsletter and Coordinator of the International Ban Asbestos Secretariat. Featured speakers include: Judge David Oldham, Dr. Chris Berber, Professor Penella Woll, Coroner Christopher OBE, Counsel Richard Pearce and Chris Chambers, formerly an HM Inspectors of Health and Safety.

Asbestos Workshop at Conference on Epidemiology in Occupational Health

An asbestos workshop will take place during the Conference on Epidemiology in Occupational Health which is being held in The Netherlands on June 18-21, 2013 [http://www.epicoh2013.org].

The session entitled Asbestos and Mesothelioma will take place at 17:15-18:15 on Wednesday June 19, 2013 and will feature the following subjects and speakers:

  • Occupation and mesothelioma in pleura and peritoneum in Sweden - updated incidence for males and females 1961-2009; Plato, Nils PhD; Weiderpass, Elisabete; Sparren, Pär; Martinsen, Jan Ivar (Stockholm, Sweden);
  • The latency period of mesothelioma among a cohort of British asbestos workers (1978-2005); Frost, G.F.; Harding (Buxton, United Kingdom);
  • Biomarkers for pleural mesothelioma in the Mexican Institute Social Security PhD Aguilar-Madrid, G.A.M.; Juarez-Perez; Calderón Aranda; Kelly García; Alvarado Cabrero; Ochoa Vázquez (Mexico Distrito Federal, Mexico).
